SSG are delighted to announce the launch of David Mead’s new recruitment business. We’ve worked with David to help him with his recruitment start-up, and we’ll be supporting him on an ongoing basis. To celebrate to launch of his new business, we spent some time with David and asked him to tell us a little bit more about his journey in the recruitment industry up to this point.
Tell me about your recruitment background.
I first started in recruitment back in 2000 as I had been working in the financial services sector and wanted a change. My first recruitment role was focussed on the motor trade, placing new and used Car Salesmen, Parts Advisors and Sales Managers. In about 2007 I moved into the construction sector, specialising in the M&E sector. I became the Divisional Manager of the M&E Team and then went on become the Director at Broadgate Associates Ltd.
What was your motivation for starting your own recruitment business?
My main motivation for starting my own business was driven by the desire to create my own legacy and ultimately stop helping others create their legacy. Having 2 young children, the desire and focus of creating something that is mine has been a real driving force. At the time I was working for a large recruitment business and after 3 years or so, it struck me that although the shareholders visit the office, I had never actually met or been introduced to any of them. This left me questioning why I was working the long hours and putting in all the effort, to ultimately, help make money for essentially faceless shareholders who have never even introduced themselves or spoken to me.
Of course, the flexibility of managing your own business is also a motivating factor as I have the freedom to do the school run, attend xmas plays and sports day etc.
What sectors do you cover? What roles do you specialise in?
I work across the construction industry and all of its associated vertical markets. I specialise in the M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) sector, providing technical, white collar recruitment solutions on a permanent basis.
What can customers expect when they work with you?
When working with me you can expect complete transparency at all times and confidence that if I say something will be done, it will be done. Service levels are key for me and I genuinely strive to provide an experience that stands out from the rest.
What are your long-term plans for the company?
At this stage, my plans for the business are very simple; to cement our place in the market as a quality service provider of intelligent recruitment solutions. The rest is a blank canvass currently! The goal is to make DGL Recruitment Ltd a recruitment partner of choice, based on the experience of working with us and the quality of our delivery.
We’d like to thank David for sharing his experiences with us, and we look forward to working closely with him as he continues to build on his vision.
