1. Setting up a recruitment agency is my dream, but do I have the business experience it takes to succeed?

"SSG provide the business acumen, so all the experience you need is at least 3 years in a 360-degree recruitment role, ideally within an agency environment. Add to that the drive, motivation and determination to succeed and the belief that we can all work happily together, and, as they say, teamwork makes the dream work."

2. Is there a clear step-by-step process to follow?

"SSG will project manage the start-up of your new recruitment agency for you, ensuring that everything that is necessary to get your business up and running is in place. The launch of your new business generally takes between 4 and 8 weeks, but of course this is dependent on you and your plans."

3. How many recruitment agencies has SSG launched?

"Since 2003, we’ve launched well over 200 new recruitment agencyes and we continue to support in excess of 135 of those businesses. 4 out of 5 of the ventures we support stay with us at the end of their initial contract term and we have an enviable success rate, especially in comparison to the national average success rate for start-up businesses."

4. How long does it take before most companies start making a profit?

"It varies depending on sector, location, current situation and, of course, any restrictive covenants in place. We advise you have savings to cover at least 3 months’ costs to survive that ‘baked beans period’ – most businesses should be invoicing by then, if not sooner."

5. I’ve read about comprehensive ongoing support after the launch process is complete – what is included?

"We want you to focus on what you do best – recruiting! So, we provide support in four key areas:

Legal and Compliance – we consider all of the things you might not, to ensure your business is fully compliant.

Creative and Branding – from designing your logo on Launch Day, through the provision of stationery to building a bespoke website, our creative geniuses are on hand to make your business look beautiful!

Resource Allocation – including the key provision of job board access, as well as a raft of other services, we ensure that your new business has access to the resources it needs to trade successfully.

Accounts and Financial – we know no one wants to deal with the VAT Man and that challenging area of ‘the books’, so we ensure that your business’s back office runs smoothly.

Business – every business is different and so we respond to your specific business needs. PSL tendering, client dispute resolution, expansion, business mentoring…..the list is endless.

Or it might be simply a shoulder to cry or someone to share those champagne moments!"

6. Do SSG offer recruitment start-up business funding or investment?

"Not as a general rule, however we do have an equity model where we may consider some additional investment (over and above the free business launch) in return for a percentage share of your new recruitment agency.

What we do invest is our time and money in launching your new recruitment agency free of charge, and providing comprehensive ongoing support, regardless of whether or not you bill that month "

7. What other recruitment agency start-up funding options are available to me?

"If you are in need of funding to start up your own recruitment agency, there are a number of options available to you, which include bank loans, franchises, private investment, associate or commission only schemes, or self-fund DIY (where you may save the funds yourself or borrow from family/friends).
