Violet Executive Search – A Year On…

Over the last week or so, I had the opportunity to have a conversation with one of our ventures, Violet Executive Search. Headed up by the experienced Mark Jackson, Violet have been trading for just over a year now & have been a valuable client of SSG since their incorporation back in 2015. Mark & I had the opportunity to discuss how he has found the first year of trading & how the relationship between Violet & SSG has developed over the last 12 months.

1) Why did you decide to launch your own recruitment business?

I left my employer for a new role which turned out to be not what was advertised in the slightest and that left me at a crossroads. I had a choice between building a new desk for someone else or building something for myself, it was a no brainier to do it for myself!

2) What had stopped you in the past? (what concerned you about starting up on your own?)

The financial element had always been the biggest barrier and with a young family I was not able to risk a period without an income or support.

3) Did you look at any other options before deciding to launch with SSG?

I spoke with several organisations who offer similar services but they were either too expensive or I didn’t get a good feeling from them.

The reason I chose SSG was down to how relaxed and open my meeting with David was. I followed my gut and David and the SSG team gave me no reason to doubt it.

4) How did you find the launch process with SSG?

Perfectly smooth. The team were always on hand to answer (LOTS) of my questions and everything was done in a timely manner.

5) What challenges have you faced being a Recruitment Entrepreneur?

Lack of sleep…! There is a lot more to running your own business than people anticipate, but thankfully SSG are on hand to help with a lot of it.

6) What elements have been “easier” than you thought?

The setup and financials have been much easier than I first anticipated, which is down to the support from SSG. Getting told what to pay and when to pay it makes it easy!

7) What advice would you give someone thinking about starting up on their own?

Make sure it is right for you, anticipate what you want from the business and have a clear plan. I know several recruitment start-up owners and they all differ in their visions, be it an enterprise or a lifestyle business.
Also don’t be afraid to make mistakes, or tell clients no.

Mark has already progressed rapidly in his venture & SSG have had the privileged of being able to support him through this growth. While nothing is clear in the world of the recruitment, the tenacity & drive of Mark & his team is clear for all to see. All we hope is that entrepreneurship continues to give Mark & his family what they want in their lives & for SSG to be part of that shared ambition.
