We recently spent some time with Aaron Leemans-Kennedy of Vet Locums about his experience launching his new recruitment business with SSG.
Here's what he had to say:

Tell me about your recruitment background.

I've spent over 8 years in veterinary recruitment, I joined my previous company as a new startup in 2009 and built my desk up from nothing.

What was your motivation for starting your own recruitment business?

The freedom and independence of working for myself and providing a better life for my family.

What sectors do you cover?  What roles do you specialise in?

The veterinary industry. I cover the whole country, recruiting for Vets and Nurses, both locum and permanent.

What can customers expect when they work with you?

Professionalism, efficiency and a genuine understanding of the industry.

What are your long term plans for the company?

I’m hoping to expand and employ consultants as quickly as possible, there are over 5000 veterinary practices in the country which is a lot for one person to cover on their own. I’m hoping to create a company where people want to work, giving them the tools required but also the freedom to do it.

Did the launch process meet or exceed your expectations?

The launch was handled perfectly, I’m absolutely delighted with the end result.

Which part of the process if any do you feel we could have done differently or better?

I left this blank for a while to try and find something constructive to say, but honestly, I couldn’t fault anything really.

Were you made to feel welcome at our offices?

Absolutely. It was great to meet everyone who I’ll be working with over coming years, it was clear from the set up at Dower House that this is a company that knows what it’s doing, which was very reassuring to someone who has just quit their job of 8 years.

Which element of the launch most worried you initially?

What worried me the most, was all the aspects I had no idea about. Like a lot of consultants I’d imagine, I know how to place candidates and not much about what goes on behind the scenes, in terms of financing, branding, admin etc……

Which element of the launch did you enjoy most?

Definitely the branding, Christian had the fantastic idea of using my dog in the company logo, which is quite apt for the veterinary industry, it’s day 2 and I’ve already had compliments from clients on my branding. Also, working with Chris to create the website.

Which element of the launch did you enjoy least?

Getting my head around the accounting side, I still don’t think I understand it. Thankfully SSG do.

How did you feel about the level of communication between yourself and the members of the SSG Team?

Superb. Whatever you need, SSG has an expert.

What were your thoughts on the launch day itself?

It just all fell into place naturally, once I got the email to say we’re live, it was a great moment, the realisation that you’re entirely in control of your own future and won’t have to work for someone else ever again. It’s so liberating.

Did you feel well informed about the launch process and what was expected of you?

Krissy kept me updated throughout the launch process with regular updates of everything SSG were doing, and everything I needed to do, it was so efficient.
