Having recently completed the launch of Mycroft & Miller, we sat down with owner Dan Halls – not for champagne cocktails, but for a hearty brew and a catch up on how his life has changed over the last few months.

Dan made the move into recruitment when returning to the UK after a period of 5 years working and living in, firstly, Dubai and then Hong Kong. Most of Dan’s friends were working for recruitment businesses and were always trying to tempt Dan to the dark side.  At the time, Dan had doubts about a career change being so far away from home and not really knowing how long he’d be living the expat life.

When the inevitable move back to London finally happened, Dan thought it would be a good time to explore the idea of a career change which then led him into recruitment and, a few years later after working for some of the larger and well-known recruitment outfits, here he is with a business of his very own.

Dan’s motivations to go it alone will sound familiar to many recruiters – that constant nagging thought of ‘I would do things differently if it were up to me’.  This, coupled with a desire to work to a degree of flexibility left Dan feeling the time was right to start a new venture.     

So, Mycroft & Miller was born, providing quality permanent and temporary candidates for Sales, Marketing and Communications roles across Professional Services, Legal, Insurance and Financial Services sectors. Mycroft & Miller aim to serve the mid to senior level positions throughout London and the surrounding areas.

What sets Mycroft & Miller apart from many other recruitment businesses?  Dan says, “I believe a key strength is how adaptable and flexible we can be to our customers, perhaps more so than compared with a larger agency who has to go through procedures to allow change. I think customers will see that whilst maintaining a professional approach to everything we do, we’re also very down to earth. We’re all about building good relationships with our customers and we will go the extra mile to fulfil customer satisfaction and give a positive outcome.”

Dan has clear long term plans for Mycroft & Miller including taking on one or two experienced consultants, when the time is right, perhaps in 12 to 18 months from now.  Once the business has a strong base and is established in London, the goal is to explore growing the business in the north and north west and other regions across the UK.

We’re confident that Dan will grow his business organically and successfully, with the same integrity and passion he has demonstrated during the launch of his new recruitment business, and we look forward to working with him as the business develops.
