Future Levels launches with SSG

SSG have gone and done it again. We've helped another recruiter launch their own business. This time it is Martin Sandford and his new business Future Levels. I caught up with Martin to learn a little bit more about how he came to be the owner of the latest recruitment company in the south!

Tell me about your recruitment background.

My career in recruitment started in early 2007. Like many other recruiters I’ve known, for me it was more luck than a deliberate choice. I’d never considered it as a career and knew very little about it, but welcomed the opportunity to develop in a professional sales environment, joining a market leader in accountancy recruitment following a redundancy situation.

Fast forward 10 years and I reflect happily on the circumstances that at the time seemed stressful. It actually resulted in a great new career! During this time, I have worked in several different environments, from branches of internationally renowned consultancies, to start-up agencies, predominantly within the accounting and finance sector.

What was your motivation for starting your own recruitment business?

There were a number of drivers for making the decision, but as strong as any was the desire to challenge myself in building a business that truly reflects my own personality and approach to recruitment. I wanted to draw on all my experiences over the last 10 years to deliver a service that’s genuinely valued by both candidates and clients.
Whilst working across the whole south west area, I also saw an opportunity to launch a dedicated accountancy recruitment agency. A company based in Somerset, for Somerset businesses.
Additional motivation came from wanting to have more time for my young family, something that driving a 100 mile round trip each day just didn’t afford. I now work from a Grade II listed warehouse on the bank of the River Parrett and walk to work across the fields. It's quite a change!

What sectors do you cover? What roles do you specialise in?

My primary focus is accounting and finance roles at all levels and across all business sectors. I have successfully helped businesses to recruit from trainee level, right through to Group Finance Director level.
In support of this, we recruit for other commercial roles including sales, marketing, IT and administration.

What can customers expect when they work with you?

I have a background in customer service and retail management. I’ve always placed customer experience at the heart of everything I do. In practice, this means doing what you say you’re going to do and keeping in touch regularly to communicate updates.

It’s important that the service offered fits the needs of the customer, whether the client or candidate, rather than simply applying a one size fits all approach. Therefore, each new assignment is approached uniquely and in a collaborative fashion.

What are your long term plans for the company?

I’m really excited to see where the business will be in five years’ time! I have a desire to grow the business organically over the next few years, both in terms of the team here as well its reputation as a leading agency within the accounting and finance sector for the south west.
