Fillip Search is SSG’s latest launch. We caught up with founder Tom Lee to find a bit more about him and his plans for the future.

Tell me about your recruitment background.

I have 11 years’ experience in IT recruitment. I’ve worked for two companies in that time. One global agency and another with less than 10 consultants. This contrast has given me a good overview of the recruitment industry and how a business works. I’m sure I’ll need to use all my experiences, good and bad to make a success of my own business!

What was your motivation for starting your own recruitment business?

I have a young family and I was keen to spend more time with them. Commuting for 4hrs a day wasn’t sustainable and I generally wanted a better balance between family and work.

What sectors do you cover? What roles do you specialise in?

I specialise in IT, the roles most common are those associated with the software development life-cycle eg Business Analysts, Developers, Testers, Project Managers. Graduate through to Director/senior appointments.

What can customers expect when they work with you?

Candidates and clients can expect a high level of customer service and integrity. This is why people stay in touch with me because of my honest and straightforward approach. I would much rather build a relationship with someone that is going to last, I’m not interested in quick wins.

How did you find the launch with SSG?

Everyone at SSG has made what was looking like a very daunting move for me very easy. I never imagined it would go as smoothly as it has done and the way everything is communicated is excellent. I guess communication is a big part of it, I’ve never felt out of the loop with how things are going; website build, HMRC/bank accounts etc.. all set up very efficiently. All this support has allowed me just to focus on recruitment and making placements. From my experience with SSG I would find it difficult to make any suggestions for improvement. I would just say keep doing what you are doing as you are all clearly very good at it!

What are your long term plans for the company?

I’d certainly like to try and grow the business and bring additional consultants in alongside me. I’m just focussed on getting through the first year and hitting my target for now. Once year one is finished I hope to be able to start looking further ahead.
