Today we celebrate the launch of Hague Personnel, a new recruitment business working out of Halifax with recruitment entrepreneurs Alainah and Gabby at the helm.
We caught up with them to talk about their history, their ambitions, and their experience of launching their own recruitment business with SSG.
First of all, tell us about your recruitment background?
Alainah: I joined Major Recruitment in 2010 when I was 19 as a Trainee Recruitment Consultant within the industrial team. I started as a trainee and was given a client called Comfy Quilts who are manufacturers of pillows, quilts and bed linen. We had 10 temporary staff in, I worked on the account for 4 years before handing it over with circa 200 temporary staff, it went on to become a very profitable onsite contract for Major Recruitment. I worked my way up from Trainee to Area Manager, managing 3 offices in the North West with a total of 13 staff members. Two of the three offices, in Blackburn and Wigan, were startup offices. I was involved in every aspect of the startup from setting up the offices, recruiting staff and selling into the local markets. I’ve worked in the Industrial sector for nearly 9 years but I’ve also covered Engineering, Commercial and Logistics recruitment.
Gabby: I joined PMP recruitment as an onsite Account Manager in 2011 based onsite at Nestle in Halifax. PMP supplied temporary shop floor staff and I was responsible for the day to day management of 200 – 400 workers across 2 sites as well as covering other contracts when needed. I have vast experience in management and volume recruitment. At PMP I covered all duties such as Payroll, Recruitment, MI reports and the management of the workforce. I Joined Major Recruitment in 2016 as an Account Manager on the Comfy Quilts account before being promoted to Branch Manager of the Blackburn branch, one of the 3 Major offices in the North West. I was heavily involved in the startup of the Blackburn office and managed two key accounts with a minimum of 100 temporary staff.
What was your motivation for starting your own recruitment business?
We worked together for two years on a number of key accounts, from new business wins to established long-standing client accounts. We work well together, we are both very ambitious and confident in our own abilities. We both agreed it’s now or never so we decided to take the plunge!
What sectors do you cover? What roles do you specialise in?
We cover Manufacturing, Distribution, Automotive, Skilled trades and Commercial. We decided to cover these sectors as we have both worked on roles in each sector previously. We cover both temporary and permanent roles, our main focus will be temporary to permanent positions.
What can customers expect when they work with you?
We both believe strongly in the core values of our company which are – Honesty, Safety, 100% service, Quality and Professionalism. When working with us you can expect us to always live and breathe our core values which we believe will be the foundation of building strong and long-lasting relationships with our customers.
What are your long-term plans for the company?
At present as we are a new startup we are trying to keep costs low, we are working from a lovely barn in Halifax although we will be looking at office premises next year, By Summer next year we would like to secure an office in Halifax town centre and recruit our first employee. Our 5-year plan is 2 offices – Halifax and Blackburn/Burnley with 10 employees.
Now let’s talk about the launch of Hague Personnel. Did the launch process meet or exceed your expectations?
The launch process exceeded our expectations. From the very start when we first spoke with SSG it was very apparent that you knew what you were doing and you were extremely professional. The launch has been a smooth process and we couldn’t be happier with how it’s gone.
Were you made to feel welcome at our offices?
Very welcome indeed. We’ve been to the offices twice and both times felt really welcome. It’s even better that Berkhamsted is a lovely place and is home to a very tasty Thai restaurant! We’re already looking forward to our next visit.
Which element of the launch most worried you initially?
Factoring! We knew what factoring was and had an idea of how it worked but it took a little while to understand it. SSG helped us with a huge amount of the financial side (e.g. setting the company up) so we were in safe hands and didn’t have to worry.
Which element of the launch did you enjoy most?
The creative was our favourite part of the launch. The second time we visited Christian came in with his logo ideas and we were blown away. It all became very real and it was great to choose our logo and start to build our brand.
Which element of the launch did you enjoy least?
We enjoyed it all. There wasn’t any element that we didn’t like. It was all very interesting and we enjoyed the whole process.
How did you feel about the level of communication between yourself and the members of the SSG Team?
Excellent. SSG are a fantastic company and we would highly recommend them to anyone looking to set up their own recruitment company. The communication is quick and professional. Each contact has their own area of specialism which is great. We know who to ask if we have a question.
What were your thoughts on the launch day itself?
It was great, really enjoyable. Lots of information to take in but all of our questions were answered there and then. We really liked meeting each department and discussing each element of our set up.
Did you feel well informed about the launch process and what was expected of you?
100% – Krissy has been fantastic, we have been fully informed and up to date and received weekly updates to inform of us the progress made. We couldn’t fault the launch process and we always knew exactly what was expected of us.
We’d like to thank both Gabby and Alainah for taking the time to speak to us, and for their kind and encouraging words about their experience working with SSG to launch their business. The work doesn’t stop now though – and we’re looking forward to supporting both of them for years to come!
