"Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend." Albert Camus
I guess what Mr. Camus is trying to say on our behalf is that just because we ask you to follow SSG does not imply that we think you need to be led! In fact, it is an absolutely fundamental policy within the SSG environment that we do not, must not, should not and really ought not try to encourage a Recruiter to start a business. That is a fool’s errand for sure.
Our job is just to be the very best option for a Recruiter once they have decided that they would like to start a business. For us that means making sure that we present the information available to our target demographic – i.e. motivated, professional and friendly Recruiters who want to engage rather than be led, followed or told what to do.
We have always seen the relationship that we enjoy with our Clients as a moral partnership, based on trust and mutual respect. Sure, there is a Working Agreement in place to act as a safety net for our guys but the basic premise is that as long as we all try hard and all just do our best, 99% of the time, it is going to work. We walk together, we work together and we succeed together.
So, when we ask you to follow SSG please do not think us arrogant enough to suggest that you need to be led, by SSG or anyone else. We want you to know what is available. We want you to know where to find the information you might need and we want you to know what the rest of the entrepreneurial world is doing right now.
The truth is that most of the time, in following SSG you will be vaguely interested in what you see. Occasionally, in following SSG you will be excited by what is on offer and rarely in following SSG will you be appalled to see a Recruiter that you actually know taking the lead and starting up their own business before you do – through SSG or not! How awful is that?
After all, Bob is no better a Recruiter than you & as for Sue, goodness knows how she ever get organised enough to do it. And, don’t even get me started on Brandon! He knows nothing!
So, come on – get on board the SSG Information Train and ride the rails of seriously useful updates with the team… or we will continue to torture metaphors and similes like a dog chewing a bone made of your dreams & the fairy tales of children!
Some Options for you
Some Two Word FAQs
Following SSG does not necessarily mean that you want to start your own recruitment business right now – it may be that you don’t fully investigate the idea for another 6 months, 12 months – perhaps you never will, but maybe the general concept is of interest to you?
Perhaps that is enough to make you want to ‘join up’ & follow? But there are many other very good, hard-to-argue against reasons to keep in touch.
Like it or not, the world of recruitment is changing. You need to be involved; you need to be part of that discussion. Barriers are being removed day by day to those who feel that effectively, even when being employed by a corporate company, you are in fact running your own desk – working for yourself. Outside of recruitment, the changes to tax law, benefits, entrepreneurial attitudes and work / life balance mean that almost everyone at some point will consider working for themselves. You have to ask why that is the case?
Remember, SSG is just a conduit, that’s all. You can keep up to date without any stress, almost without any effort & one day, ‘maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but soon & for the rest of your life’ (thank you Casablanca!) you will probably want to consider what the maths of retaining 70% / 80% of what you bill actually is. Get informed, get involved & then one day, get in touch.
Will you get bombarded with promotional emails from SSG eulogising the life of a budding entrepreneur? Will endless emails jam your inbox and drive you to distraction on a daily basis? Will semi-clad, SSG-hired super models stop you in the street offering you champagne and a generous 20% discounts to sign on the line?…
To be fair, probably not.
Will you get the occasional, specific update on what’s happening within the SSG network? Yes. Will you be told about the experiences of recent start up ventures? Yes. Will you be invited to contact us if you want more information? Maybe.
This is not a big promotional push from the corporate giants of SSG (hee hee!), Nope, this is about communication which one day might lead to a conversation. Nothing more, nothing less.
It would of course be great to hear from you and let’s face it, for a business like SSG which receives around 40% of all our new business from referrals and recommendations, we need to keep in touch with our potential market, but there is no way that we want to track you down to shout at you with facts & figures.
Don’t forget, the guys with whom we want to work are recruiters who have already decided that they would like to start a business but just feel (for whatever reason) that SSG is the best option to achieve that goal. Nothing pushy about that. In fact, quite a reserved attitude I would suggest!
Get ready for a few interesting observations.
Nearly ½ (that’s almost 50% to you and me!) of all of the Recruiters with whom SSG now work took between 6 & 12 months to actually talk to SSG after they first knew of us. Now, that is what we call a ‘slow burn’.
We are not looking for Recruiters to get in touch with SSG, endure a big sales pitch from a fat tie & then commit overnight. We are simply hoping that curious Recruiters will hear about what we do, start to gently investigate what is on offer and then maybe pick up the ‘phone to chat.
In following SSG somehow, this is the first, gentle step along that well worn path. It seems that we are right in thinking that no Recruiter really wants to be pursued. None of us likes to be chased by a sales guy with a target to hit. That is so not SSG!
After so many years of operating in this space, we know what we are looking for and it is not a Recruiter to whom the dream can be sold. It is a Recruiter who has taken the time to investigate how to launch their business, once they have already decided that owning their own business is of interest to them. It is the slow burn – it is a steady as she goes attitude & it works.
When you are ready to chat, get in touch. By following SSG in some way, we want to give you access to information, not use your details as the basis of a manic Monday Morning marketing blast!
Hard to imagine I know, but perhaps one day you will decide that not only do you no longer want to consider launching your own recruitment business but you also do not want to keep up to date with all things SSG!
Seems almost too crazy to even consider we know, but let’s play the game for a minute. The world is upside down, right is wrong; black is white & good is bad. How do you stop SSG getting in touch? Is there a way to call off the hounds from hell?
Yep, there is. Simply send one email and it will all immediately stop. Dead. No more. All over. Finished. Kaput. Done. Dusted. Extinct.
In all seriousness, we have no desire to be a pain in the neck. This is meant to be fun and informative not tiresome and seemingly endless.
Just let us know!
